New multi-fuel power plant to be built in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan’s state AzerEnerji and Finland’s Wartsila are discussing the project of a 104MWe power plant in Guba, 165 km northwest of Baku. Marlen Asgarov, Vice-President of AzerEnerji, said a site has been allotted for construction.

“This power plant will supply electricity to the Winter Sports Complex in the northern regions of Azerbaijan,” he added.

The contract covers design, delivery of equipment and supervision of the installation and operation of the plant for two years. Wartsila has won orders for seven combined heat and power plants from AzerEnerji. In October 2006, Wärtsilä was awarded a further contract for 18 Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel generating sets to be installed in a 300 MWe power station at Sangachal. This plant is to be completed in November 2008.
